Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Technical Advisor Fuel & Lubricating Oil Testing Laboratory, your duties may include:

Technical Reporting & Advisory

  • Interpreting laboratory test results of fuel oil samples and translating them into clear, actionable, and customer-ready reports
  • Checking, preparing, generating, and issuing technical reports through the VPS online portal
  • Providing professional advice to customers regarding fuel quality and its potential impact on vessel equipment, particularly engine operations
  • Coordinating with regional teams to resolve discrepancies in data entries and test results

Data Management & System Operations

  • Performing data entry verification to ensure the accuracy and integrity of all records
  • Managing the Vessel Management System (VMS) as and when required
  • Updating and maintaining in-house databases on a regular basis
  • Preparing work orders as required by operational needs

Customer & Sales Support

  • Providing responsive technical support to customers and the sales team for all FQT-related queries
  • Monitoring and managing group technical email accounts and taking appropriate action
  • Liaising with laboratory management on behalf of clients to ensure smooth communication

Training, Representation & Improvement

  • Representing VPS Veritas at industry seminars by writing and delivering technical papers and presentations
  • Publishing articles and presenting fuel quality seminars to internal and external stakeholders
  • Suggesting and supporting improvements to the efficiency of FQT reporting tools
  • Assisting the sample registrar during the sample registration process when required
  • Undertaking any other duties as directed by management, in line with company procedures and the management system

Skills & Qualifications

To qualify, you should have:

  • Sea-going experience in a senior engineering role, such as Chief Engineer or Second Engineer, demonstrating strong hands-on knowledge of vessel operations and fuel systems
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, a related scientific discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience
  • Solid computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Fluent written and spoken English communication skills, as English is the primary business language at VPS Veritas
  • Proven ability to work effectively within a team, contributing positively to a collaborative and fast-paced work environment
  • Strong capabilities in communication, planning, and organization, with a detail-oriented approach to technical documentation and reporting

Work Environment

This role involves:

  • Working in a professional laboratory and office-based setting within the Fujairah facility
  • Regular engagement with technical data, fuel testing systems, and specialized reporting software
  • Interaction with international clients, regional colleagues, and laboratory management teams
  • Occasional international travel to represent the company at industry events or client locations
  • Adherence to company procedures and management system standards at all times
