Key Responsibilities

As a Mobile Speed Camera Operator, your duties may include:

Site Setup & Operations

  • Setting up, operating, and packing down mobile enforcement systems including trailers and vehicles at assigned locations across Ōtautahi Christchurch
  • Carrying out thorough site risk assessments before the commencement of each enforcement session
  • Monitoring mobile enforcement equipment throughout each shift to ensure accurate and uninterrupted operation

Reporting & Communication

  • Maintaining regular communication with the Acusensus control centre during all shifts
  • Completing detailed shift reports at the end of each session
  • Reporting any equipment faults, maintenance needs, or operational issues promptly to the Operations Supervisor

Safety & Compliance

  • Following all safety protocols strictly during site setup, operation, and transit between locations
  • Driving safely and responsibly between enforcement sites at all times
  • Adhering to all New Zealand road rules and company operational guidelines

Community & Public Interaction

  • Handling any interactions with members of the public in a professional, calm, and respectful manner
  • Acting as a positive representative of Acusensus and road safety initiatives in the community

Skills & Qualifications

To qualify, you should have:

  • A valid New Zealand driver’s licence with a clean driving record and no outstanding demerit points
  • Confidence and competence in using technology, mobile devices, and digital reporting tools
  • High attention to detail, particularly when recording, monitoring, and submitting enforcement data
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work independently in the field
  • Flexibility and willingness to work a rotating roster including day, night, and weekend shifts
  • A genuine passion for road safety and making a positive impact in your local community

Work Environment

This role involves:

  • Working in a fully field-based, mobile setting across various locations throughout Christchurch and the wider Canterbury region
  • Operating during day, evening, and overnight shifts in varying weather and road conditions
  • Extended periods of independent work with support available from the central control centre
  • Regular vehicle operation between enforcement sites, requiring a high standard of road safety awareness
  • Occasional interaction with members of the public in outdoor, roadside environments

Experience and Specialisation

Operations & Technology

  • Experience operating monitoring equipment, digital devices, or field-based technology systems
  • Background in compliance, enforcement, traffic management, or similar field operations roles is an advantage
  • Familiarity with completing operational reports, checklists, and shift documentation

Driving & Road Safety

  • Demonstrated history of safe, responsible vehicle operation
  • Knowledge of New Zealand road rules and traffic safety regulations
  • Experience working on rotating or non-standard shift rosters including nights and weekends

Tools & Equipment Used

  • Mobile enforcement vehicles and camera trailers
  • Digital communication devices and control centre reporting systems
  • GPS navigation and route planning tools

Additional Information

Work Conditions

  • Full-time position based in Christchurch Central, Canterbury
  • Rotating roster covering day, night, and weekend shifts — not a standard 9-5 role
  • Field-based work requiring regular travel between enforcement sites across the city
  • All appointments are subject to successful completion of pre-employment checks including driver’s licence suspension and demerit check, criminal history check, medical assessment, and drug and alcohol test
