Key Responsibilities

As a Registered Surveyor, your duties may include:

Land & Property Surveying

  • Conducting cadastral, boundary, and topographic surveys across a wide variety of residential, rural, and commercial project types throughout the Hunter Region
  • Managing greenfield residential development and infill development site surveys from initial assessment through to final plan lodgement
  • Carrying out rural subdivision surveys, easement identification, and associated documentation for rural and semi-rural properties including horse studs and vineyards

Development & Construction Surveying

  • Providing survey services for strata and community title developments, including preparation and lodgement of relevant plans with NSW Land Registry Services
  • Supporting construction projects with set-out, as-built, and compliance surveys as required by project teams and clients
  • Contributing survey expertise to renewable energy project delivery, including site assessments and boundary and easement work

Civil Design & Project Management

  • Applying civil design knowledge to support multi-disciplinary project delivery in collaboration with town planning and civil works teams
  • Managing survey project timelines, client communications, and deliverable schedules to ensure on-time, on-budget outcomes
  • Coordinating with architects, planners, engineers, and government authorities throughout the project lifecycle

Client Communication & Reporting

  • Maintaining strong, professional relationships with a diverse client base spanning developers, landowners, construction companies, and government bodies
  • Preparing and presenting clear, accurate survey reports, plans, and technical documentation
  • Communicating project progress, issues, and outcomes effectively to clients and internal team members

Skills & Qualifications

To qualify, you should have:

  • Current registration as a Registered Surveyor in New South Wales (mandatory requirement)
  • Demonstrated experience in a broad range of surveying disciplines including cadastral, topographic, construction, and rural surveying
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD drafting software — experience with additional CAD platforms is an advantage
  • Experience with Trimble survey equipment including conventional total stations and GPS systems (desirable)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with a proven ability to manage client relationships professionally and confidently
  • A current Australian driver’s licence and willingness to travel regularly across the Hunter Region as an essential part of the role

Work Environment

This role involves:

  • A combination of office-based drafting, reporting, and project coordination work at the Newcastle and Upper Hunter offices
  • Regular field-based surveying across a wide geographic area throughout the Hunter Region, including urban, rural, and remote project sites
  • Travel between office locations and project sites as a core requirement of the position — a current driver’s licence is essential
  • Collaborative work alongside town planners, civil designers, project managers, and external stakeholders on multi-disciplinary projects
  • Occasional construction site visits requiring adherence to site safety standards and protocols, including White Card compliance

Experience and Specialisation

Surveying Disciplines

  • Cadastral and boundary surveying for residential, rural, and commercial land
  • Greenfield and infill residential development surveying
  • Strata and community title plan preparation and lodgement
  • Rural subdivision, easement, and title boundary surveys
  • Renewable energy project survey support

Equipment & Technology

  • Trimble conventional total stations and GPS survey equipment (desirable)
  • AutoCAD drafting software (required)
  • Additional CAD platforms such as 12d Model, Civil 3D, or MicroStation (advantageous)
  • NSW Land Registry Services lodgement platforms and survey plan preparation tools

Civil Design & Project Management

  • Civil works design support in a multi-disciplinary project environment
  • Project management across construction and development project types
  • Coordination with town planners, civil engineers, and government authorities

Additional Information

Work Conditions

  • Full-time position based across MM Hyndes Bailey & Co’s Newcastle and Upper Hunter offices
  • Regular travel within the Hunter Region is an essential and expected component of this role
  • Pre-employment medical check may be required prior to commencement
  • Construction Induction Safety certificate (White Card) required or must be obtained prior to starting
  • The company operates across a wide variety of project types — no mine work is undertaken
