Key Responsibilities
As a Healthcare Security Officer at Souris Hospital, your duties may include:
Patrol & Facility Protection
- Conducting a combination of static post duties and roving interior patrols throughout the Souris Hospital facility, including all floors, stairwells, hallways, patient areas, and restricted zones, to ensure the continuous safety and security of people, property, and sensitive information
- Monitoring access points, entrances, exits, and controlled areas of the hospital to prevent unauthorized access, ensure visitor compliance with hospital policies, and maintain a safe and orderly environment for patients, staff, and the public at all times
- Identifying and reporting security risks, safety hazards, suspicious behavior, or policy violations observed during patrols to hospital management and appropriate authorities in a timely and professional manner
- Enforcing all established hospital rules, regulations, and security protocols consistently and impartially, using sound judgment and strong communication skills to address non-compliance situations before they escalate
Emergency Response & Code White Participation
- Actively participating as a member of the hospital’s Code White Response Team, responding rapidly and professionally to situations involving aggressive, violent, or emotionally disturbed patients, visitors, or individuals within the hospital environment
- Assuming a lead role in crisis conflict resolution and physical restraint interventions when required, applying trained de-escalation techniques and safe physical intervention methods to protect the safety of patients, staff, and the public
- Responding promptly and effectively to all hospital emergency situations including medical emergencies, fire alarms, security incidents, and evacuation scenarios, providing direct physical assistance to staff, patients, and visitors as required
- Physically aiding in the safe evacuation of patients, public, and staff during emergency situations, working in close coordination with hospital emergency response teams and external emergency services
Conflict Resolution & Crisis Management
- Demonstrating sound, calm, and professional judgment when addressing conflict situations within the hospital environment, applying strong dispute resolution skills to de-escalate tensions before physical intervention becomes necessary
- Communicating effectively and respectfully with patients, family members, visitors, and staff during stressful or emotionally charged situations, providing reassurance, clear direction, and a stabilizing presence throughout each incident
- Documenting all security incidents, conflict situations, Code White responses, and emergency interventions accurately and thoroughly in official security logs and incident reports as required by hospital and Commissionaires procedures
- Collaborating closely with nursing staff, hospital administration, and other healthcare professionals to maintain a coordinated and effective approach to security and patient safety throughout every shift
Customer Service & Public Interaction
- Providing courteous, professional, and helpful customer service to patients, visitors, and hospital staff during all routine and non-emergency interactions throughout the facility, reflecting positively on both Commissionaires and Souris Hospital
- Assisting patients, visitors, and staff with directions, information, access control, and general hospital navigation inquiries in a warm, patient, and professional manner
